About Us

INTERxVENT is a comprehensive, scientifically validated disease-prevention and -management platform. Created 14 years ago by academic researchers and scientists in the US, INTERxVENT has since been modified, enhanced and adapted for the Canadian market. INTERxVENT comprises:

  1. Health risk assessments
  2. Health content and tools
  3. One-on-one health coaching
  4. Robust analytics and outcome reporting capabilities

These components allow licensees and health stakeholders to determine and improve return on investment for health expenditures. To date, more than 200 corporations, academic institutions and government agencies covering more than one million lives have used INTERxVENT programs to improve participants’ health.

Problem: Increasing health costs and decreasing productivity

INTERxVENT solves two urgent health problems:

  1. Rising healthcare costs
  2. Decreasing productivity due to disease

Both problems can be attributed to declining health status and escalating risk factors. For example, 80% of adults now have at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Such risk factors are forecast to increase with an aging population.

Disease, disease risk factors and disease complications contribute to direct and indirect healthcare costs. Direct costs include spending on diagnostic technology and medications. Indirect costs include productivity impairments from short-term disability, long-term disability, absenteeism, presenteeism and low employee engagement.

These issues can’t be resolved through traditional approaches such as healthcare reorganization, improved efficiency or improved quality of care. In fact, improving quality of care—such as through expanding the use of evidence-based medications—increases costs, further worsening the healthcare spending crisis.

The way to effectively address these problems is by shifting healthcare from its current “reactive” model—in which patients seek care when issues arise—to a “proactive” model—in which care is provided to prevent disease or disease-related complications. Unfortunately, usual-care settings are not well-suited to proactive care due to such issues as time constraints and resource deficiencies.

Solution: A modular platform for health risk stratification and reduction

INTERxVENT addresses the growing problems of healthcare costs and productivity loss by:

  1. Proactively identifying disease risks with comprehensive health risk assessments
  2. Stratifying populations according to their risk level
  3. Delivering risk-personalized programs outside of usual-care settings

INTERxVENT programs use single-concept adult learning theory to ensure long-term behavioural change. The programs cover health factors including smoking cessation, stress management, exercise, nutrition, diet, medication compliance and diabetes. They are delivered in either a self-help format or with the assistance of a health coach, depending on a participant’s risk level.

INTERxVENT programs are uniquely designed to incorporate physicians, pharmacists, employee assistance providers and other healthcare stakeholders into a closed-loop system of care. Usual-care providers receive updates on participants’ progress and can actively assist in delivering program components themselves. For example, pharmacists can be alerted to participants’ medication risks as well as actively mentor participants on medication compliance.

Through assessing population risk, stratifying populations and delivering comprehensive and personalized programs, INTERxVENT increases health awareness, changes behaviour, increases motivation and empowers participants and health stakeholders to collectively improve health status and reduce disease prevalence and complications. A healthier population is a less costly and more productive population.
